One of Lynwood Unified’s most cherished March traditions made its way back to the Firebaugh High School Gymnasium, where enthusiastic crowds of families, friends and staff cheered on elementary school students competing in the District’s annual Mathathon.
Third-, fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders from across the District’s 12 elementary schools got the chance to compete for the top spots during the two-day event, showcasing their fierce mathematical abilities.
The competition featured two challenging rounds. In the main event, students solved mental math problems in front of a lively crowd in the gym, while the other competing grade level tackled written math problems, both individually and in groups, in a separate room. The groups then switched places to complete both challenges.
Students in third and fourth grade competed on March 12, while fifth- and sixth-graders went head-to-head on March 19. The winners were:
3rd Grade:
- 1st Place: Abbott Elementary School
- 2nd Place: Lindbergh Elementary School

4th Grade:
